Best of 2018 >> adventure weddings and elopements in Hawaii and the western US

Wow. 2018 was a doozy. I love doing this yearly roundup because it really puts everything into perspective and reminds me how wonderful the past year was! I am feeling so grateful for all of you that trust me and include me on one of the most important days of your lives. What a blessing it is!

In February, I attended an adventure wedding workshop at Yosemite National Park with The Hearnes and Maddie Mae. This experience was a game changer for me and gave me the clarity to focus on my passion for adventure elopements and small weddings.

In May, I flew to San Diego to shoot an intimate backyard wedding. It was such a lovely celebration with their family and close friends. Garret and I rented a campervan (our dream car…currently on the search for one!) and explored Joshua Tree National Park together. Definitely one of my new favorite places in the world. I would love to head back there for an elopement some day! Then we hopped back to Hawaii and I shot their honeymoon adventure session in Waimea Canyon on Kauai.

Spent the next couple months in Hawaii and then flew to Truckee, California to photograph an epic wedding at Sugar Bowl Resort on Lake Mary in August. Their rock climbing day-after session was a HUGE highlight of the year! Came back to Maui and then back to Yosemite National Park in September for an adventure engagement session and celebrated my birthday in the valley with rock climbing lessons. A terrifying and awesome experience!

In November, I photographed an eco-friendly wedding on Maui which was also a favorite. I’ll be sharing more from this wedding in the future and really hope it inspires my future couples to create weddings that are sustainable and care for our earth. Finished off the year on Oahu with an adventure elopement and the sweetest couple from New Zealand. It was such a fulfilling way to end the year. :)

My goals for 2019

Outsource - this year I definitely reached a breaking point with my work load. I’m committing to outsourcing the business tasks that I don’t need to do, so that I can create more time to spend with my loved ones, enjoy personal adventures, and give more of my energy to my clients.

Give back to the land - I love my partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects planting 50 trees for every shoot booked, but I want to do more. Currently looking for new partnerships and projects to be a part of to help educate and preserve the natural areas in our country. If you know of a meaningful project that needs help please contact me!

Travel by campervan - My husband and I would love to travel more on the mainland during the summer and fall months….which means I’m available for adventure elopements in Oregon, Washington, California, and Utah!! We’ve been on the hunt for a campervan, so we have a mainland rig for adventures. I’ll be heading to Bend, Oregon in May for some sessions and would also LOVE to shoot in the Redwood National Forest and the Oregon Coast this year. Utah is another bucket list location I would love to see again. We road tripped there a few years ago, but would be thrilled to explore new areas there and shoot some adventure elopements!

Phew. What a year. When I look back on the year I feel enormous gratitude for all of the amazing humans I’ve had the honor of connecting with. I wouldn’t have had so many epic experiences if it wasn’t for all of YOU! Thank you from the bottom of my heart. :)

Yosemite National Park Engagement Session | Yosemite Elopement Photographer

yosemite national park engagement session

Lindsay and Griffin contacted me this summer to book a California adventure session to celebrate their recent engagement. They saw on my travel schedule that I would be in Truckee, California during the month of August, but unfortunately our dates didn't match up so we had to plan for another time. We were determined to make it happen! They were planning a backpacking trip to explore Half Dome in Yosemite National Park in September, and we decided it was the perfect time to meet up for their photo session!

I absolutely love Yosemite and it ended up being the perfect time of year to explore the national park. The air was crisp and the leaves were starting to change. It was such a warm autumn vibe! Definitely missing that here in Maui right now as I sit here typing in the eighty five degree weather. :) Taft Point is such an epic spot to experience the grandeur of Yosemite. It offers a wide variety of backdrops, so that my clients receive a complete collection of photographs from their intimate session. We hiked through a moss covered, old growth forest and finished their session on the edge of the cliffs overlooking Yosemite Valley. It was such a fun adventure. Taft point is absolutely incredible and one of my favorite viewpoints of the park.

One of my favorite aspects of adventure sessions is getting to know my clients on a deeper level. I truly cherish connecting with my clients in this way, and enjoying the beauty of nature while we explore is icing on the cake. I love my job so much and I’m so grateful to all of you that trust me to capture your love.

Thank you SO much for a fun adventure you two! Huge congrats on your engagement and hope to see you again next time I’m in California! Hopefully I’ll be back soon to photograph a Yosemite adventure elopement. :)

Review from Lindsay after receiving her full collection of photographs :)

"Naomi is phenomenal, bottom line.
From our initial contact to the delivery of our pictures, Naomi was so wonderful to work with. She was extremely flexible when we wanted to do an adventure engagement session somewhere scenic in California; initially offering to fit us into her time in Truckee and then agreeing to meet us in Yosemite. She offered great advice on my outfit choices and gave me a few locations to choose from that would provide us with epic backdrops.
Hiking out to our location allowed us to really get to know Naomi. She is a caring, adventurous person and someone who I felt comfortable with. During the pictures, she laughed with us when we did silly things and truly was happy witnessing and capturing the little moments we shared. It didn't feel like "business;" it felt like spending time with an old friend.
Her talent for creating candid moments between the couple really shined through in our photos. We felt that each picture incorporated "us" and did not feel rehearsed or uncomfortable. We had FUN - and this is amazing, given that my fiancé hates when attention is on him.
We received our pictures quicker than expected and they are so incredible. I am having a hard time narrowing down my favorites and trying to pick which one(s) we want to print and hang up around the house. Seriously, we LOVE them all. They are epic, and beautiful, and everything you want in an engagement photo (plus so much more).
Look no further for someone who will add joy and beauty to your day and find a way to capture "you" as you are, in the process."

Yosemite National Park Adventure Elopement | Adventurous Destination Wedding Photographer

In February, I attended an adventure wedding workshop in Yosemite National Park with The Hearnes and Maddie Mae.  Two of my favorite adventure photogs in the industry.  They inspire me daily.  I always enjoy attending workshops during slow season.  It's a nice time to connect with other photographers, stay up to date on the latest business trends, and gain new inspiration.  Garret and I traveled to Yosemite a few years ago while we were road tripping along the west coast and Yosemite was my absolute favorite from the trip.  He literally had to pull me away I loved it there so much.  There's just something about the energy there that mesmerizes me and makes me feel alive.

Megan and Zach drove all the way from Texas to model for us at the Adventurers Workshop.  It was so fun sharing this special place with them and seeing their eyes light up when they first saw the valley.  There are many reasons why I love shooting adventure elopements, but one of my favorites is sharing the experience with my clients.  I love taking people somewhere new and watching their jaws drop at the beauty.  I have a deep passion for the environment and I always hope that my photographs give people the same feeling I have when I'm there.

Another one of my favorite aspects of shooting adventure elopements is that it's a special time only the two of you share (and me, haha).  No stress about what color napkins you'll have, who to invite, and how much money will be spent in one day.  It's about the two of you, your love for each other, and doing that with nature as your backdrop.
