North Shore Maui Engagement Session | Paia, Hawaii

Jodi and Sam flew to Maui from Montana to enjoy the warm ocean and tropical breeze. Winter in Montana can see lots of snow and freezing cold temps, so they were grateful to escape the winter weather for a while. They wanted to get up early and enjoy a location that was different than the typical beach, so I took them to one of my favorite spots. The north shore near Paia, Hawaii is one of my favorite places to shoot at sunrise to capture the sweet morning light. It’s quiet, the wind is calm, and we usually have the locations all to ourselves. It’s a really special time to enjoy the island and watch the sunrise over the ocean.

After sessions my couples are always ready for some local grinds, so I wanted to share a few of my fave spots in Paia for brekkie or lunch! Paia Bay Coffee, Choice Health Bar, Cafe Des Amis, and Mana Foods are my top choices in town.

PAIA RESTAURANT RECS

Paia Bay Coffee has excellent coffee, savory and sweet options, and it’s in a cozy courtyard setting surrounded by tropical plants and local art work.  They usually have music on and a bustling vibe.  Also a great spot to see live music and enjoy specials during happy hour in the afternoon.  Choice Health Bar is the best vegan and raw food in town.  They serve açaí bowls (a local specialty), salads, soups, a healthy twist on plate lunches, smoothies, and fresh juices.  Mana Foods is my favorite health food store on island.  They have an amazing hot and cold bar for healthy take out options and a great selection of local fruits and veggies.  Cafe Des Amis is a unique spot serving Mediterranean and Indian cuisine.  Sweet and savory crepes, curry dishes, wraps, and salads are a few of the delish options here.  Also serving mimosas, cocktails and local brews.

NORTH SHORE MAUI ~ THINGS TO DO

Once you enjoy checking out the restaurants and shopping in Paia town its time to hit the beach!  Baldwin Beach is one of the best locations to enjoy the views on the north shore, hang out with sea turtles, and take a quick dip. Hookipa Beach is a famous surf break and a must see especially in winter when the swells are really pumping. Or drive down Hana Highway exploring waterfalls, windy roads, and jungle vibes.  It’s about a 2 hour drive to Hana and definitely a must while visiting Maui.  I recommend taking the entire day or even better staying in Hana for the night to really slow down and enjoy the sights.  There are a ton of awesome hikes, swimming holes, unique beaches, and fruits stands.
